Enamel chipping

My mixer is just under 2 years old. While preparing Thanksgiving dinner, I was handwashing the flat beater and noticed the enamel bubbling and then falling off. Thank goodness I noticed the bubbling or I would have had to throw out the cheesecake for fear someone would bite into enamel chips. We always handwash the beaters and bowl, so I was really surprised this happened. After reading reviews here stating that people had problems with multiple flat beaters, I am concerned this was not a fluke, but a manufacturing issue. Very disappointed.

I have the KitchenAid Professional 550 HD which I've had for probably 10+ years and I love. My flat beater is metal and not coated. I will say I don't use my mixer that often like most people. I'm now finding that black dirt is coming off of my flat beater. I tried washing it by hand and then put it in the dishwasher but neither made any difference. I need a new beater but looking at the reviews this coated one may not be any better.

As stated by many reviewer’s, the plastic coating is chipping off the original beater. Do I order a replacement which also chips as many others have reported? My model is the KSM5.

I have to buy the dough hook and the flat beater, but after reading reviews it concerns me that this continues to be a common occurrence. Has kitchen aid developed better enamel coated beaters that do not chip so frequently? My dough hook has not chipped but cracked at the top and water has gotten under the enamel causing bubblin. I love my machine and have purchased one for each of my 3 children for their homes. I hate that this continues to happen. My machine is KSM5 model and have it is for 30 years and highly recommend the kitchen aid mixer and have encouraged many to purchase with several highly appreciated friends.

Why is this so hard to set properly to avoid chipping the enamel? a stainless steel beater would be better
