My husband got me this for Christmas and the 1st time I used it one of the beaters turned black around the base of the beater. Is that normal or a defect?

I bought this mixer for holiday baking and love it. It's slow speed start keeps ingredients in the bowl and allows the user to speed up as needed. Perfect, lightweight and lives up to the KitchenAid name.
