Gee, people, is it so difficult to hand wash a beater?? I've always done it and had no problems. Plus, you're sure to get all food off of it, because you can feel for it with your hands.
Quality is incredibly disappointing

I purchased my mixer at Christmas last year. It was used a couple of times resulting in both the beater and dough hook turning black. I am sorry but my expectation for an expensive small kitchen appliance is that it meet current infection control standards for cleaning and be dishwasher safe. Will be my last kitchen aid purchase.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! BEATER & DOUGH HOOK BLACK

I have this beater and dough hook (which have not ever been through the dishwasher) and they are turning black! I contacted customer service and they said too bad go buy new ones! Seriously, I will NEVER buy a kitchen aid product again, ever. If I had any idea this is what would happen to the beaters I wouldn't have bought the mixer. I can't afford to keep replacing items that should not need replaced. the black residue comes off into any food you try to mix. I have no idea what it is but I'm not baking that into cookies or bread and then feeding it to people. Is it lead? That could mean lead poisoning! Look at the picture of my beater - YUCH!
Stainless Steel or Burnished Aluminum??

I bought this beater several years ago thinking it was stainless steel as described, but when it turned black after washing, I assumed I misread the description and it was aluminum, not stainless steel. I threw it away. When I came back to the website to look for a "true" stainless steel beater I found it is still being advertised as "Stainless Steel" yet when KitchenAid responds to complaints about it turning black it is referred to a "Burnished Aluminum" beater, which explains why it turns black but it seems it is still being sold as stainless steel. Why is it still being sold as stainless steel?
Love my mixer but the attachments don’t hold up

I love my mixer, however this beater and Emmy whisk have both gone black after going in the dishwasher. I literally coated a paper towel in black.
