Just installed tonight. A couple of things I noticed. You have to have a small container to add water to the reservoir and I don't see a away to tell how much ice has been made or how much water is left in the side tank. This is the fourth Opal I have purchased and wish they would last longer. I absolutely LOVE the ice!!

We bought this in addition to keep up with our ice machine for our fridge. So far we are loving this ice machine. The only downside and reason I didn't give this a 5 star is because we cannot fill up 1 large yeti cup without running out of ice but this product does produce ice very fast.

It’s not quite ready for market. The ice on the chute into the ice storage gets stuck easy triggering false “Ice Bin Full.” It dispenses ice randomly, minutes after touching the button. It does not make anywhere close to 36lbs of ice per day. It constantly has to go into defrosting mode even with distilled water and descaling weekly. The ice storage is not insulated very well. Ice melts extremely quickly despite being on the open counter for no heat to hang around it. In the end I’d pass on the dispenser. Not worth the trade off’s just to dispense ice.

I was pretty excited to pick up one of these Opal dispensers. I figured it had similar upgrades as the Opal 2.0. I have a Opal 1 as well and have compared my experiences. If you are purchasing for it’s “claimed in perfect conditions” 36lbs of ice per day, 1.65lbs per hour, it has never gotten close. It’s about the same as my Opal 1.0. My Opal 1.0 would never go into defrosting, this one does everyday. I thought it might be due to the new activated carbon filter limiting water flow however, even with the metal screen it still freezes up. Let me add I’m running it with distilled water and descale it about every week with the Opal cleaning kit. Let’s talk about the dispensing aspect. This dispenser still uses the IR ice bin full sensors. Also the dispenser ice storage melts a lot quicker then the Opal 1.0. I also think the ramp or guide that drops the ice into the ice storage is not angled enough. Ice gets stuck on it and makes the unit think it’s still full of ice. Even though it maybe is only 25% full from it melting. It does this mostly when sitting for more then 1-2 hours without dispensing. When pushing the dispense button it works great and stops about 5 seconds after you release as the manual says. However, it will be minutes after you touched the button and it will start dispensing again for 1-2 seconds, dumping ice all over the counter. I’m guessing that could be fixed with a software update. Overall with essentially the same speed ice production as the 1.0 and 2.0 Opal, small ice bin capacity, and the phantom dispensing I’d go for the Opal 2.0 or wait for the second generation Opal dispenser.
